Hon'ble Shri Justice Ajit Singh

Born on 6th September, 1956, Hon’ble Shri Justice Ajit Singh hails from a distinguished legal family; his father, the late Hon’ble Shri Justice G.P. Singh, served as the Chief Justice of the High Court. After graduating in law from Rani Durgawati University, Jabalpur, Justice Ajit Singh enrolled as an Advocate with the Bar Council of Madhya Pradesh on 18th October, 1979. He practiced in the High Court of Madhya Pradesh at Jabalpur, specializing in Civil, Criminal, and Constitutional law.

Elevated as an Additional Judge of the High Court of Madhya Pradesh on 1st April, 2002, he was later appointed as a Permanent Judge on 21st March, 2003. Justice Singh also served as the Chairman of the Advisory Board constituted under the National Security Act. In administrative roles within the High Court, he was an Administrative Judge and a member of various Administrative Committees. He also fulfilled the duties of the Executive Chairman, Madhya Pradesh State Legal Services Authority.

Justice Singh was transferred to the Rajasthan High Court on 19th March, 2015, and subsequently took the oath of office as Chief Justice of Gauhati High Court on 5th March, 2016. He demitted the office on 5th September, 2018.
