Hon’ble Mr. Justice Anish Kumar Gupta

A prominent figure in the Allahabad High Court, Justice Anish Kumar Gupta's career is defined by diverse legal expertise and significant contributions to constitutional law. With a rich background in Supreme Court practice and advisory roles to various governmental bodies, Justice Gupta brings a wealth of knowledge to the bench.

Justice Gupta's academic journey began with his graduation from the University of Allahabad in 1993. He later earned his LL.B. from CSJM Kanpur University in 1997, followed by an LL.M. from the University of Delhi in 2002, laying a strong foundation for his legal career.

He commenced his practice in the Kanpur Civil Courts in 1997 before transitioning to the Supreme Court of India in August 1998. By 2005, he had become an Advocate on Record of the Supreme Court, marking a significant milestone in his career. Justice Gupta's expertise led to his appointment as Additional Advocate General for the State of Haryana, where he served for over seven years, providing crucial legal guidance.

He has served as Special Counsel for the State of U.P. and Counsel for the State of Rajasthan. He has also represented Canara Bank, Airport Authority of India, National Council for Teachers Education (NCTE), Agricultural and Processed Food Products Export Development Authority (APEDA), Coal India Ltd., Mahanadi Coalfields Ltd., National High Speed Rail Corporation (NHSRCL), Ghaziabad Development Authority (GDA), Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR), and Madhya Pradesh Power Management Company Ltd., showcasing his versatility and expertise in diverse legal domains.

Justice Gupta has had the privilege of appearing in matters of national importance, including the Ram Sethu Matter, Ram Janma Bhoomi, Ayodhya matter, Aadhar Matter (9 Judges), and Special Reference Matter under Article 143(1) of the Constitution, demonstrating his profound understanding of constitutional law.

Since 2006, he worked as counsel for the Supreme Court Legal Services Committee (SCLSC). He also trained as a Mediator by the Mediation and Conciliation Project Committee (MCPC) of the Supreme Court, reflecting his commitment to alternative dispute resolution.Justice Gupta took oath as an Additional Judge on February 7, 2023, and as a Permanent Judge on August 23, 2024.
