A distinguished figure in the Delhi judiciary, Justice Anu Malhotra was born in Ahmedabad on November 27, 1960. She began her academic journey at Duruelo Convent, Bandra, Bombay, and continued her studies at Mithibai College of Science, Bombay, before graduating with a B.Sc. from Daulat Ram College, University of Delhi, in 1980. She completed her LLB from the Campus Law Centre, University of Delhi, in 1983. Justice Malhotra joined the Delhi Judicial Service on July 26, 1985, and was promoted to the Delhi Higher Judicial Service on May 26, 2000.
A trained Mediator, Justice Malhotra received training under the aegis of the Hon’ble MCPC of the Supreme Court of India and by ISDLS (California). She was also trained as a Master Trainer by the CEDR, London, at the ICADR, New Delhi, and has since been actively involved in imparting mediation training and training mediators as trainers in mediation. From mid-2009 to December 2011, she served as the Director of the Delhi Judicial Academy. As a Fellow of the Commonwealth Judicial Education Institute, Canada, she has been keenly involved in judicial education.
Justice Malhotra served as the District and Sessions Judge, West District, Delhi, from May 6, 2013, to April 27, 2015, and subsequently as the District and Sessions Judge South, Saket, New Delhi, from April 27, 2015. During her 31 years of judicial service, she adjudicated in a wide range of jurisdictions. Elevated as a Permanent Judge of the High Court of Delhi on November 8, 2016, she retired on November 26, 2022.
