Belonging to a family of Lawyers and Judges, Justice Karia completed his Bachelors of Commerce in 1986 with First Class. He became a Chartered Accountant and enrolled as an Associate Member of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India in 1990, starting his practice as a Chartered Accountant.

He completed his Bachelors of Law from Gujarat University, Ahmedabad, in 1993 and enrolled with the Bar Council of Gujarat as an Advocate.
