A key figure in the Bombay High Court judiciary, Justice B. P. Colabawalla has a career defined by years of dedicated service. His expertise spans corporate law, property disputes, and alternate dispute resolution, making him a valuable asset to the bench.
Justice Colabawalla completed his initial schooling at Cathedral & John Connon School, Mumbai, before joining K.C. College, Mumbai, for his Bachelor of Arts degree. He then completed his LL.B. from K.C. Law College in 1993.
While pursuing law, Justice Colabawalla joined Mulla & Mulla & Craigie Blunt & Caroe, Mumbai, as an article clerk in 1992 under Mr. Hormuzdiyaar Vakil. He also had the opportunity to work with his uncle, the Late Mr. Soli Dinshaw Colabawalla. After completing his LL.B., he enrolled with the Bar Council of Maharashtra & Goa on August 19, 1993, and began practicing before the Bombay High Court.
His association with Mulla & Mulla & Craigie Blunt and Caroe continued until 1995, after which he joined the chamber of Senior Counsel Mr. Dinyar D. Madon on July 3, 1995, to pursue full-time counsel practice. He predominantly practiced law on the civil side, handling matters pertaining to Corporate Laws, Property Disputes, Alternate Dispute Resolution, Contractual Disputes, matters pertaining to SICA, Banking Laws (RDDB Act, 1993 & SARFAESI Act, 2002), and Personal Law related matters.
In addition to practicing before the Bombay High Court, he also appeared before the Supreme Court of India and other High Courts. He also appeared in several matters before the lower judiciary, such as the DRT, DRAT, BIFR, AAIFR, SEBI, etc.
