A key figure in the Delhi High Court, Justice D. Murugesan's career is defined by decades of dedicated service. Born on June 10, 1951, he was enrolled as a Member of the Bar on August 27, 1975, marking the beginning of a distinguished legal career. He served as a Legal Advisor to the University of Madras from 1984 to 1987 and to the Corporation of Chennai from 1992 to June 1996.
Justice Murugesan’s expertise led to his appointment as Special Government Pleader for Education from 1994 to 1996, and later as Special Government Pleader for Writs starting in October 1997. He was further appointed as Government Pleader on December 8, 1998. His judicial career advanced when he was appointed as a Judge of the Madras High Court on March 2, 2000, and subsequently became a Permanent Judge on June 13, 2001. Justice Murugesan reached a significant milestone when he was elevated as the Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court effective September 26, 2012, a position he held until his retirement on June 10, 2013.
