A distinguished member of the Delhi High Court, Justice Girish Kathpalia brings a wealth of experience from academia, legal practice, and judicial service. After graduating in B.Sc.(Hons.) Zoology from Sri Venkateswara College, Delhi, he obtained his LLB from Campus Law Centre, Delhi University in 1989. He enrolled with the Bar Council of Delhi and practiced as an Advocate across various jurisdictions, including Delhi District Courts, Central Administrative Tribunal, Delhi High Court, and Supreme Court.
Justice Kathpalia worked as Govt. Counsel for the Govt. of NCT of Delhi and the Union of India. He also served as a part-time Lecturer at Campus Law Centre, Delhi University, from 1995 to 1998. He has published over 200 articles, essays, and research papers on various legal, social, scientific, and political issues, and authored the book "Criminology and Prison Reforms." He also served as Chief Editor of “Evidence-1989” and Editor of “Nyayapravah.”
He joined the Delhi Higher Judicial Service in 2002 and presided over different jurisdictions, including Additional District Judge, Additional Sessions Judge, Motor Accidents Claims Tribunal, Labour Court, and NDPS Court. He also served as Registrar General, Delhi High Court; Principal Judge, Family Court; District & Sessions Judge, South-East; and Principal District & Sessions Judge, Head-Quarter, Delhi. He was elevated as an Additional Judge of the Delhi High Court on May 1, 2023.
