Justice Rajendra Menon, a prominent figure in the Indian judiciary, has a distinguished career marked by extensive legal practice and judicial service. Known for his expertise and administrative acumen, he has served in various high-profile positions, contributing significantly to the legal landscape.
Born on June 7, 1957, Justice Menon graduated in Science from Govt. Science College, Jabalpur, under Rani Durgawati University. He completed his LL.B from NSE Law College, Jabalpur, in 1981, setting the foundation for his legal career.
Justice Menon began practicing law soon after graduation and served as Standing Counsel for the Central Government from 1991 until his elevation to the Bench. He also represented several private and public sector undertakings, including South Eastern Coal Fields Ltd., Northern Coalfields Ltd, Western Coalfields Ltd., Syndicate Bank, Union Bank of India, Vijaya Bank, Rani Durgawati University, M.P. Dairy Development Corporation, Associated Companies Ltd., Reliance, Tata Motors, and other establishments.
He took oath as an Additional Judge of the Madhya Pradesh High Court on April 1, 2002, and became a Permanent Judge on March 21, 2003. He served at the Gwalior Bench of the High Court until March 2008, before being posted at the Principal Bench in Jabalpur. He also served as Acting Chief Justice of the Madhya Pradesh High Court from May 13, 2016, to March 14, 2017.
During his tenure at the Madhya Pradesh High Court, Justice Menon was involved with several Administrative Committees. He was appointed as Welfare Commissioner for the Bhopal Gas Victims Compensation Commission from December 2010 to March 2015. Additionally, he was in charge of Judicial Education & Training and served as Chairman of the M P State Judicial Academy. He also chaired the M P State Legal Services Authority from March 2015 until March 14, 2017.
Justice Menon was elevated as the Chief Justice of the Patna High Court on March 15, 2017, and served until August 7, 2018. He was then sworn in as the Chief Justice of the Delhi High Court on August 9, 2018, and retired on June 6, 2019.
