A distinguished member of the Patna High Court, Justice Rajiv Roy was born to Smt. Raj Kumari Roy and the late Moti Lal Roy, an Advocate of the Patna High Court. He completed his schooling from Ram Mohun Roy Seminary, Patna, and graduated in B.Sc. (Zoology Hons.) from Science College, Patna.
Justice Roy pursued post-graduation (M.Sc., Zoology) from the Department of Zoology, Patna University, and obtained his LL.B. degree from Patna Law College in 1989.
Joining the Patna High Court Bar in 1990 under Senior Advocate, Late Parmeshwar Prasad Sinha, he later worked with Shri K.K. Mandal. Justice Roy served as Retained Counsel for various organizations and as Panel Lawyer for entities like the New India Assurance Company and the Bihar State Electricity Board. His practice focused on constitutional, service, and criminal matters.
Elected as Secretary of the Patna High Court Bar Association (2009-2011), Justice Roy was appointed as Government Pleader-5 in 2010, a role later re-designated as Government Pleader -1. He resigned from this post in 2021 and was sworn in as Judge of Patna High Court on 29th March, 2022. Justice Roy is married to Mrs. Madhu Roy, and they have a daughter, Dipti Roy.
