A distinguished jurist with a comprehensive background, Justice Rajiv Shakdher, born on October 19, 1962, has made significant contributions to the Indian legal system. He began his education at St. Columba's School, Delhi, and graduated with a B.Com.(Hons.) from Delhi University in 1984. He then obtained an LL.B. degree from the Law Faculty, University of Delhi, in 1987, the same year he qualified as a Chartered Accountant from the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India.
Enrolling as an Advocate on November 19, 1987, Justice Shakdher was admitted as an Associate Member with the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India on January 29, 1988. He further pursued an Advanced Course of Law at the Institute of Advanced Legal Studies from the University of London in 1994. His expertise was recognized when he was designated as a Senior Advocate on December 8, 2005.
Justice Shakdher practiced in the Supreme Court of India, the High Court of Delhi, and other High Courts, as well as various tribunals and boards, gaining vast experience in civil litigation and constitutional law, with a special emphasis on commercial litigation, corporate, and taxation laws. He served as counsel for the Union of India and as a Senior Standing Counsel for the Comptroller and Auditor General of India, defending IA & AD matters.
His judicial career includes appointments as an Additional Judge of the Delhi High Court on April 11, 2008, and as a permanent Judge on October 17, 2011. He was transferred to the Madras High Court on April 11, 2016, and later back to the Delhi High Court on January 15, 2018. Justice Rajiv Shakdher's career reached a new height when he was elevated as the Chief Justice of the High Court of Himachal Pradesh on September 25, 2024, marking a significant milestone in his career.
