A distinguished jurist at the Patna High Court, Justice Sandeep Kumar's journey reflects a deep commitment to law and justice.

Hon’ble Mr. Sandeep Kumar was born in a legal family on 22nd January, 1967 in village Sahtha, District Vaishali, Bihar to Mr. Rameshwar Prasad Shahi, a leading Tax lawyer and Late Smt. Geeta Shahi a Home Maker. Justice Kumar completed his matriculation from Ram Krishna Mission Vidyapith, Deoghar, Jharkhand and his intermediate from Birla Public School, Pilani Rajasthan. Thereafter he graduated in Bachelor of Science from Hansraj College, University of Delhi. Justice Kumar pursued his Bachelors degree in law from Campus Law Centre, Faculty of Law, University of Delhi. After completion of LL.B., Justice Kumar enrolled as an Advocate and started his practice before the High Court of Judicature at Patna on 01st September, 1989 under Shri Nagendra Rai, then a Senior Advocate, subsequently elevated to Patna High Court. He has also worked under Shri Prakash Narayan Pandey, Senior Advocate and Shri S.J. Mukhopadhyay, Senior Advocate (subsequently elevated). Justice Kumar initially practiced on the criminal side as well as on tax matters, but later practiced in civil, criminal and writ jurisdiction before the Patna High Court. He has represented the State of Bihar, Union of India, Patna University, Babasaheb Bhim Rao Ambedkar Bihar University, Muzaffarpur, Tilka Manjhi University, Bhagalpur, Bihar Renewable Energy Development Agency (BREDA) and the Bihar State Text Book Publishing Corporation Ltd. He has regularly represented leading infrastructure companies and their executives including those in the State of Bihar before various judicial fora. Justice Kumar has also handled several arbitration and commercial matters. He has also appeared for various scheduled banks such as ICICI and HDFC. During his practice of more than three decades he has appeared before various High Courts. His Lordship has been trained as a Mediator by the Patna High Court, Mediation Centre and has successfully conducted multiple mediation sessions at the Mediation Centre. Justice Kumar was the Secretary of the Patna High Court Bar Association from January 2007 till March 2009 and served as the President of the Patna High Court Bar Association between March 2011 till March 2013. His Lordship was designated as a Senior Advocate by the Full Court of the Patna High Court on 19th April, 2021. He was elevated as a permanent Judge of the Patna High Court on 20th October, 2021.
