Born on August 21, 1964, in Bilaspur, Hon'ble Mr. Justice Sanjay Agrawal has dedicated his career to the judiciary of Chhattisgarh. His father, the late Shri Shyam Bihari Agrawal, was a retired Professor in Zoology, and his mother was a homemaker. His family has deep roots in the legal profession; his grandfather was a prominent civil lawyer, and his uncle, Shri Ravish Chandra Agrawal, is a Senior Advocate and Advocate General for the State of Madhya Pradesh.
Justice Agrawal completed his schooling and B.Sc. in Mathematics in Bilaspur before pursuing his LL.B. from Kaushalendra Rao Law College, Bilaspur. He worked as an Upper Division Teacher from 1986 to 1989.
He enrolled as an Advocate on September 7, 1989, and began his legal career under the guidance of Shri Ravish Chandra Agrawal. He practiced law in the District Court at Bilaspur from 1989 to January 1997, then at the High Court of Madhya Pradesh from 1997 to 2000, and finally at the High Court of Chhattisgarh from 2000 until his elevation.
His legal practice encompassed Civil, Criminal, and Constitutional law, with a specialization in Civil law. During his time at the High Court, he was appointed as Government Advocate, a role he held until 2007.
Justice Agrawal was elevated as a Judge of the High Court of Chhattisgarh on September 29, 2016, and took oath as a Permanent Judge on January 8, 2018.
