A distinguished figure in the Patna High Court, Justice Sanjay Kumar Singh's career is marked by a deep understanding of criminal law and a commitment to justice.
Born on January 21, 1969, in Mirzapur District, Uttar Pradesh, he completed his undergraduate studies in Science at Ewing Christian College, Allahabad, in 1988. He obtained his Law degree from Dayanand College of Law, Kanpur, in 1992.
Enrolled as an Advocate on May 9, 1993, with the Bar Council of Uttar Pradesh, he practiced at the High Court of Judicature at Allahabad. He began his career under the mentorship of his father, the Late Shitala Prasad Singh, a prominent criminal lawyer and Government Advocate.
During his time at the Bar, he handled diverse matters including Criminal, Civil, Service, Education, and Writ jurisdictions, with a specialization in criminal cases, particularly those involving Economic Offences and NDPS Act matters. He also served as an “Additional Central Government Standing Counsel” at the Allahabad High Court.
He held significant positions, representing Government Organisations such as Uttar Pradesh State Road Transport Corporation (UPSTC), Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited (UPPCL), Dr. Bhim Rao Ambedkar University, Agra, and Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL). He was also engaged as Counsel to conduct FERA cases and matters related to money laundering under PMLA on behalf of the “Directorate of Enforcement(ED)” at the Allahabad High Court.
His expertise was recognized through his appointments as “Special Public Prosecutor” for the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), Customs and Central Excise, Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB), and Central Bureau of Narcotics (CBN).
Elevated to the Bench as an Additional Judge of the Allahabad High Court on November 22, 2018, he became a Permanent Judge on November 20, 2020. He took oath as a Judge of the Patna High Court on October 30, 2025.
