A distinguished figure in the Indian judiciary, Justice Sanjeev Sachdeva's career is marked by a commitment to justice and legal excellence. Born on December 26, 1964, Justice Sachdeva has ascended through the ranks, leaving an indelible mark on the legal landscape.
Justice Sachdeva completed his under graduation at Delhi Public School, Mathura Road, New Delhi in 1982, with a focus on commerce. He continued his academic pursuits at SRI RAM COLLEGE OF COMMERCE, Delhi University, earning his Bachelor of Commerce (Honours) degree in 1985. In 1988, he obtained his Bachelor of Laws degree from CAMPUS LAW CENTRE, University of Delhi, setting the stage for his legal career.
Justice Sachdeva enrolled as an Advocate with the Bar Council of Delhi on August 1, 1988. In 1992, he attended the Commonwealth Young Lawyers Course at the Institute of Advanced Legal Studies, University of London, gaining international exposure and working with Solicitors and Barristers in England. He qualified as an Advocate On Record of the Supreme Court of India in June 1995.
Justice Sachdeva has been recognized for his advocacy skills, having been trained as a lead trainer by the Indo – British Advocacy Skills project. He has trained advocates from various High Courts in India. His early academic achievements include signing the Delhi Public School Honour Book in 1985, receiving the National prize from the Directorate of Education, Delhi, and earning the Best Student Award from the N.I.I.T. in 1986.
He served as Standing Counsel for the Bar Council of India for over 20 years and as a Senior Panel Lawyer for the Union of India for over 10 years. In July 2011, he was designated as a Senior Advocate by the High Court of Delhi.
Justice Sachdeva was elevated as an Additional Judge of the High Court of Delhi on April 17, 2013, and became a Permanent Judge on March 18, 2015. He took oath as a Permanent Judge of the High Court of Madhya Pradesh at Jabalpur on May 31, 2024. He served as Acting Chief Justice of the Madhya Pradesh High Court from July 9, 2024, to September 24, 2024, and again from May 24, 2025. He was appointed as the Chief Justice of the Madhya Pradesh High Court on July 17, 2025, and is expected to retire on December 25, 2026.
