Justice Shekhar B. Saraf is a highly accomplished judge at the Allahabad High Court, known for his extensive experience in corporate law, taxation, and arbitration. He also serves as the Administrative Judge for the districts of Allahabad/Prayagraj and Kaushambi.

Born on October 21, 1971, Justice Saraf is the son of Late Justice Sohan Lal Saraf and Late Sulochana Saraf. He was educated at St. Xaviers Collegiate School, Calcutta, and La Martinere School for Boys, Calcutta. In 1996, he graduated from the B.A. LLB (Hons.) course at the National Law School of India University (NLSIU), Bangalore. He was the first NLSIU student to undertake a placement program with Mr. Dipankar Gupta, the Solicitor General of India, New Delhi.

From July 1996 to December 1997, Justice Saraf worked with Arthur Andersen & Co., focusing on corporate law and indirect taxation. In January 1998, he joined the Chambers of Mr. R. N. Bajoria, Senior Advocate at the Calcutta High Court, specializing in taxation matters. He was admitted as an Advocate in the Bar Council of West Bengal on March 12, 1999.

From 2001, he independently handled various matters, including company matters, arbitration, central excise, customs, and income tax in the Original and Appellate Side of the High Court, tax tribunals, and civil courts in Calcutta. He regularly advised private and nationalized banks on mortgage and recovery issues, appearing on their behalf before various courts and tribunals.

In 2000, he received the Chevening Scholarship for The Young Indian Lawyers Program, studying International Arbitration, Competition Law, European Community Law, and Mergers and Acquisitions at the College of Law, York.

In January 2001, he qualified as a solicitor of the Supreme Court of England and Wales. From 2004, he served as counsel for the Union of India at the Calcutta High Court, and later as Senior Counsel for the Government of India in income tax matters from July 2010, and as Senior Standing Counsel in central excise, customs, and service tax matters from December 2011. He was also an Associate Editor of Calcutta High Court Notes (CHN) from June 2012.

Justice Saraf was elevated as an Additional Judge of the High Court at Calcutta on September 21, 2017, and appointed as a Permanent Judge on September 16, 2019. He was transferred to Allahabad High Court on November 17, 2023.
