A distinguished jurist, Justice Suresh Kumar Kait has had a remarkable career marked by dedication and service to the legal profession. His journey from a small village to the bench of the High Court is an inspiring testament to his hard work and commitment to justice.
Born on May 24, 1963, in Village Kakaut, Distt. Kaithal, Haryana, Justice Kait's early life was rooted in the values of rural India. He graduated in Humanities from University College Kurukshetra, where he was selected as a Unit Leader in the National Service Scheme (NSS) and awarded a University Merit Certificate. He pursued post-graduation in Political Science from Kurukshetra University, where he was elected as Joint Secretary of the Students’ Union. Justice Kait obtained his Bachelor’s Degree in Law from Campus Law Centre, University of Delhi, and was enrolled as an Advocate in 1989, becoming the first lawyer in his family.
Justice Kait began his legal career with a strong foundation in advocacy. He served as Panel Lawyer/Senior Counsel for U.P.S.C. and Railways. In 2004, he was appointed as Standing Counsel for the Central Government, a position he held until his elevation to the bench.
Justice Kait was elevated as an Additional Judge of the Delhi High Court on September 5, 2008, and became a Permanent Judge on April 12, 2013. His career saw him transferred to the High Court of Judicature at Hyderabad for the State of Telangana and the State of Andhra Pradesh on April 12, 2016, before returning to the Delhi High Court on October 12, 2018. Justice Kait was appointed as Chief Justice of the Madhya Pradesh High Court on September 25, 2024, and retired on May 23, 2025.
