A key figure in the Gujarat judiciary, Justice Vimal Kanaiyalal Vyas's career is defined by over three decades of dedicated service. Elevated as a Judge of the High Court of Gujarat on October 20, 2023, Justice Vyas brings a wealth of experience from various judicial roles across the state.
Born on December 25, 1966, in Lakhtar, District Surendranagar, Justice Vyas completed his education at various institutions, including Bharti Vidyalaya, Rajkot, and L.D. High School, Sachin, District Surat. He obtained a B.A., LL.B. (5 years integrated course) in 1990 from H.J. Law College, Maharaja Krishnakumarsinhji University, Bhavnagar.
Enrolling as an Advocate with the Bar Council of Gujarat on November 12, 1990, he practiced in Chotila and Surendranagar before being selected as Civil Judge & J.M.F.C. He was posted as 4th Joint Civil Judge & J.M.F.C. at Bhavnagar on June 11, 1996. He served at different Taluka places, including Mahuva, District Bhavnagar, and Dhandhuka, District Ahmedabad.
Promoted as Senior Civil Judge, he served as 5th Joint Senior Civil Judge at Palanpur on February 18, 2005. He was further promoted as Additional District Judge on February 9, 2010, and posted as 7th Additional District Judge & Presiding Officer, Fast Track Court, Ahmedabad (Rural), on February 11, 2010. Appointed as Regular District Judge on March 17, 2010, he served in Ahmedabad (Rural), Sabarkantha at Himmatnagar, and as a Judge, City Civil & Sessions Court, Ahmedabad.
Justice Vyas also rendered services as Registrar (Inspection) and Registrar (Recruitment & Finance) in the High Court of Gujarat from July 2013 till May 2018. He served as Principal District Judge, Banaskantha at Palanpur, from June 2018 till March 2019, and as Member Secretary, Gujarat State Legal Services Authority, Ahmedabad, from March 2019 till January 2020. His last posting before elevation was as Principal District & Sessions Judge, Surat, from January 22, 2020, to October 19, 2023.
With a vast and varied experience in the Gujarat judiciary, Justice Vimal Kanaiyalal Vyas continues to contribute significantly to the legal landscape. He is expected to retire on December 24, 2028.
