Ved Prakash Vaish was born on June 27th, 1959, and completed his schooling in Delhi in 1975. After graduating from Delhi University, he obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Law in 1984 and was enrolled as an Advocate with the Bar Council of Delhi in the same year. He began his practice on the civil side in District Courts and the Delhi High Court.
After practicing for about 13 years, he joined the Delhi Higher Judicial Service in 1997, securing the second rank. As an Additional District Judge, he handled civil cases. From 2000 to 2003, he was posted as Additional Sessions Judge (NDPS) and as a Special Judge (CBI) in 2006, where he dealt with cases under The Prevention of Corruption Act, 1988. He was then posted as Registrar (Vigilance), High Court of Delhi in 2006.
In 2009, he served as District Judge-II cum ASJ (Incharge), North District, dealing with matters pertaining to Probate cases under the Indian Succession Act, The Hindu Adoptions and Maintenance Act, 1956, The Guardians and Wards Act, 1890, The Public Premises (Eviction of Unauthorized Occupants) Act, 1971, Mental Health Act, and appeals under the Delhi Rent Control Act. He was re-appointed as Registrar (Vigilance), High Court of Delhi, on May 1st, 2010, and then as Registrar General, High Court of Delhi, in November 2010, serving until his elevation.
Justice Vaish was elevated as an Additional Judge of the Delhi High Court effective April 17th, 2013. He was transferred to the High Court of Meghalaya effective May 23rd, 2016.
