A distinguished legal mind, Justice D.M. Dharmadhikari’s career is defined by his profound understanding of law and his commitment to justice. Born on 14th August, 1940, in Nagpur, his journey through the legal profession led him to become a Judge of the Supreme Court of India.

Early Life and Education

Justice Dharmadhikari received his education at Betul, Nagpur, and Indore. He obtained an M.A. in English and graduated in law with First Class honors, demonstrating his academic excellence and dedication to his studies.

Legal Career

He began his legal practice in 1966-67 with his father, Advocate Shri M.T. Dharmadhikari, at Betul. In 1967-68, he moved to Jabalpur and started practicing in the High Court of Madhya Pradesh under the guidance of Senior Advocate and Advocate General Mr. Yaswant Dharmadhikari. He quickly established himself as a leading lawyer, earning respect for his legal acumen and dedication.

Judicial Appointments

Justice Dharmadhikari was appointed as an Additional Judge of the High Court of Madhya Pradesh on 24th March, 1989, and became a Permanent Judge on 27th July, 1990. His career progressed further when he was appointed as the Chief Justice of the High Court of Gujarat on 25th January, 2000.

Supreme Court and Retirement

On 5th March, 2002, Justice Dharmadhikari was appointed as a Judge of the Supreme Court of India, where he served until his retirement on 14th August, 2005. His tenure on the Supreme Court was marked by his commitment to upholding justice and his significant contributions to the Indian legal system.
