Justice Hamarsan Singh Thangkhiew is a respected figure in the Meghalaya High Court. Born on December 24, 1966, in Shillong, Meghalaya, he took oath as Judge of the High Court of Meghalaya on November 19, 2018.
After completing his schooling and college at St. Edmund’s College, Shillong, he obtained his LLB Degree from Delhi University in 1990. In 1990-1991, he enrolled as an Advocate with the Bar Council of Assam, Nagaland, Meghalaya, Manipur, Tripura, Mizoram, and Arunachal Pradesh.
His practice encompassed civil, constitutional, customary, and company law. Justice Thangkhiew also dedicated time to pro bono work and mediation activities under the Meghalaya State Legal Services Authority. He was designated Senior Advocate by the Gauhati High Court in August 2010.
During his time at the Bar, he acted as counsel/standing counsel for various organizations, including the Jaintia Hills Autonomous District Council, the Election Commission of India, and North Eastern Hill University, among others. He also served as a member of the Bar Council and the Meghalaya State Law Commission.
