Born on November 4, 1923, Justice Manharlal Pranlal Thakkar had a significant career in the Indian legal system. He was educated at National High School, Gyobingavak, Burma, and B.E.T. High School, Rangoon, Burma. He enrolled as an Advocate of the Saurashtra High Court on August 10, 1948.
Justice Thakkar handled various types of cases, including civil, criminal, revenue, income-tax, industrial disputes, and company law petitions, before the Saurashtra High Court at Rajkot (until 1956), the Bombay High Court (until 1960), and the Gujarat High Court from 1960 to January 23, 1963.
He was appointed as a Judge in the City Civil and Sessions Court on January 23, 1963, and later as a Special Judge for Ahmedabad from March 1969. He was appointed Additional Judge of the Gujarat High Court on July 2, 1969, and became a Permanent Judge from November 27, 1973. Justice Thakkar served as the Chief Justice of the Gujarat High Court on August 20, 1981, and was appointed as a Judge of the Supreme Court of India on March 15, 1983. He retired on November 4, 1988.
