Since her elevation to the High Court of Delhi on March 28, 2022, Dr. Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma has distinguished herself through her extensive academic achievements, diverse judicial experience, and commitment to public awareness. Her career reflects a profound dedication to justice, legal education, and social reform.
Dr. Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma graduated with a B.A. (Hons.) in English Literature from Delhi University, where she was recognized as the best all-round student of the year by Daulat Ram College. She obtained her LL.B. in 1991 and completed her LL.M. in 2004. She also holds a Diploma in Marketing Management, Advertising, and Public Relations. In 2025, she was awarded a Ph.D. for her thesis on judicial education.
Endowed with an excellent academic record, she became a Magistrate at 24 and a Sessions Judge on her 35th birthday. Justice Sharma is a trained Judicial Mediator and has successfully settled many cases through mediation.
She served as Chairperson of committees examining sexual harassment complaints in Tis Hazari, Patiala House, and Rohini Courts. During her tenure in the Delhi District Courts, she presided over civil and criminal courts, including as Special Judge (CBI), Principal Judge of the Family Court, Motor Accident Claims Tribunal, Mahila Court, and Special Court (Sexual Offences against Women).
In November 2019, she was appointed as Principal District and Sessions Judge (North District), and in March 2022, she took charge as Principal District and Sessions Judge-cum-Special Judge (CBI) at Rouse Avenue Court.
Justice Sharma has authored several books aimed at creating awareness and supporting the public, including ‘Don't Break After Break-Up’, ‘Beyond Baghban’, ‘Tumhari Sakhi’, ‘Love Full Circle’, and ‘Judicial Education – Achieving Constitutional Vision of Justice’.
As a Fellow of the Commonwealth Judicial Education Institute (CJEI), Canada, Justice Sharma has been actively involved in advancing judicial education. She has also served as a resource person for CEELI, engaging with judges and legal professionals globally.
