Justice Tara Vitasta Ganju, a first-generation lawyer born in New Delhi in 1971, has distinguished herself in the legal field through a combination of practice, education, and commitment to alternative dispute resolution. She graduated with honors in Political Science from Lady Shri Ram College, University of Delhi, in 1992, followed by a Bachelor of Law degree in 1995 from the Faculty of Law, University of Delhi. She enrolled as an Advocate with the Bar Council of Delhi in the same year.
Furthering her legal education, Ms. Ganju received the British Chevening scholarship in 1999, enabling her to study English and EC Commercial Law and Practice at the College of Law at York. She also pursued an online Diploma in International Acquisitions and Mergers at College of Law, U.K. In 2018, she became a certified Mediator at Samadhan: Delhi High Court Mediation & Conciliation Centre and attended an advanced International Seminar on Mediating Effectively at Pepperdine Law School – Strauss Institute of Dispute Resolution, USA.
Before her elevation to the Bench, Ms. Ganju practiced primarily before the Hon’ble Delhi High Court and also steered cases before the Hon’ble Supreme Court and other courts in Delhi. She advised on a wide range of legal areas, including property, inheritance law, civil laws, arbitration, company, criminal and intellectual property litigation. Ms. Ganju has also worked extensively in advising clients on business transactions, contractual matters, and commercial and legal issues. She assisted the Delhi High Court as an Arbitrator, Mediator, and Amicus Curiae in third-party disputes. Justice Ganju was appointed as a Permanent Judge of the Delhi High Court on May 18, 2022, and subsequently transferred to the High Court of Karnataka, where she took oath on Oct 28, 2025.
