A distinguished member of the Delhi High Court, Justice Amit Sharma, born on July 7, 1972, has a career marked by legal expertise and public service. He completed his Senior Secondary School from Delhi Public School, R.K. Puram, New Delhi in 1989 and graduated with a BA in History (H.) from St. Stephen’s College, University of Delhi, in 1992. After earning his LL.B from Campus Law Centre, Faculty of Law, University of Delhi in 1995, he was enrolled with the Bar Council of Delhi.
Justice Sharma began his career on the Criminal side, appearing before the Delhi High Court and Trial Courts. In 1999, he received the British Chevening Scholarship for Corporate Law at the College of Law, York. He was elected as Additional Secretary of the New Delhi Bar Association (2004-2005) and appointed Additional Public Prosecutor for NCT of Delhi before the Delhi High Court (2007-2010).
Serving as Special Public Prosecutor for the National Investigation Agency (NIA) in 2010, he handled prosecution relating to national security involving scheduled terrorist organizations and was involved in extradition proceedings on behalf of the NIA. Elected to the Bar Council of Delhi in 2009, he served as Vice Chairman (2014-2015) and was nominated to the Governing Council and Executive Committee of National Law University, Delhi. He was elected Hony. Secretary of the Delhi High Court Bar Association (2016-2019) and nominated to the Special Committee, Bar Council of Delhi in 2017. Designated as Senior Advocate by the Delhi High Court in March 2021, he was appointed as an Additional Judge on June 2, 2022, and became a permanent Judge on March 6, 2023.
