A distinguished jurist with a rich legal background, Justice Arun Palli currently serves as the Chief Justice of the High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh.
Born on September 18, 1964, to Sarla and Prem Kishan Palli, Justice Palli hails from a family with a strong legal legacy. His great-grandfather and grandfather were esteemed lawyers in Patiala. His father served as a Senior Advocate and a Judge of the Himachal Pradesh High Court. Justice Palli graduated in Commerce and completed his Bachelor of Laws from Panjab University, Chandigarh, in 1988.
Justice Palli commenced his legal practice at the High Court of Punjab and Haryana, gaining expertise in diverse areas of law, including civil, criminal, constitutional, revenue, industrial, and labour law. He was appointed Additional Advocate General for Punjab on September 1, 2004, a position he held until March 2007. Designated as a Senior Advocate on April 26, 2007, he served as Amicus Curiae in various contentious matters before the High Court. He also appeared before the Supreme Court, Delhi High Court, and the High Court of Himachal Pradesh.
Justice Palli was elevated to the Bench of the Punjab and Haryana High Court on December 28, 2013. He served as Executive Chairman of the Haryana State Legal Service Authority since May 31, 2023, and was nominated as a Member of the Governing Body of the National Legal Services Authority (NALSA) on October 31, 2023. On April 16, 2025, he took oath as the Chief Justice of the High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh.
