Early Life and Education
Born on May 21, 1941, Justice Srikrishna graduated in Science and obtained LL.B and LL.M degrees from the Government Law College and the University of Mumbai.
Legal Career
He enrolled as an Advocate of the Bombay High Court on December 23, 1962, specializing in Labour and Industrial Law. He was designated as a Senior Advocate of the Bombay High Court on June 17, 1987.
Professional Associations
Justice Srikrishna was a member of several professional associations, including the Labour Law Practitioners, Bombay, and the National Institute of Personal Management, Bombay. He was an Honorary Member of the Western Region Committee of the Employers Federation of India, Bombay, and a Member of the Industrial Relations Research Association, U.S.A., and the International Bar Association, London.
Judicial Appointments
He was appointed as an Additional Judge of the Bombay High Court on July 30, 1990, and as a permanent Judge on October 3, 1991.
Commissions and Inquiries
In January 1993, Justice Srikrishna was appointed as a one-man Commission to inquire into the riots and incidents in Mumbai during December 1992-January 1993.
International Engagements
Justice Srikrishna was invited by the U.N.H.C.R and I.A.R.L.J to attend seminars and workshops in New Delhi (1999) and Geneva and Berne, Switzerland (2000), where he presented a paper on the Indian perspective on “New Dimensions of Persecution.” He also chaired a session at a seminar organized by U.N.H.C.H.R, Geneva, and the Ministry of External Affairs, Government of India, on the subject of “Justiciability of Economic, Social and Cultural Rights” in November 2001.
Chief Justice and Supreme Court
Justice Srikrishna was appointed as Chief Justice of the High Court of Kerala on September 6, 2001, and as Judge of the Supreme Court on October 3, 2002. He retired on May 21, 2006.
