A distinguished legal mind, Justice C.K. Prasad's career in the Indian judiciary is characterized by his extensive experience in various High Courts and his tenure as a Judge of the Supreme Court of India, contributing significantly to the development of law and justice.
Born on July 15, 1949, in Patna, Bihar, Justice Chandramauli Kumar Prasad, known as C.K. Prasad, received his early education at Patna High School. He graduated in Science from Magadh University and later in Law from Patna University.
Justice Prasad enrolled as an Advocate on November 27, 1973, and practiced in civil, constitutional, criminal, and service matters at the Patna High Court. He was designated as a Senior Advocate on July 17, 1989. From December 14, 1993, until his elevation, he served as the Additional Advocate General of the State of Bihar. He also held various offices, including Vice-President of the English Speaking Union of Commonwealth and President of the Patna Golf Club.
Justice Prasad was appointed as a permanent Judge of the Patna High Court on November 8, 1994. He was transferred to the Madhya Pradesh High Court on November 21, 1994, and later transferred back to the Patna High Court on September 10, 2001. He served as Acting Chief Justice of the Patna High Court on two occasions: from March 3, 2008, to May 12, 2008, and from December 17, 2008, to March 15, 2009. On March 20, 2009, he took oath as the Chief Justice of the Allahabad High Court. Justice Prasad was elevated as a Judge of the Supreme Court of India on February 8, 2010, and retired on July 14, 2014.
