Justice Sanjay Dhar, a respected judge of the High Court of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh, has a distinguished career marked by his dedication to the legal profession and his commitment to upholding justice. His journey from an advocate to the bench is a testament to his legal acumen and service to the community.
Justice Dhar was born in village Danow (Bogund), District Kulgam. He received his initial education in his native village, followed by a Graduation in Science Subjects from S.P.College Srinagar. He then pursued his LL.B (Hon’s) from the University of Kashmir, laying the foundation for his legal career.
Justice Dhar was enrolled as an Advocate in 1990 and began practicing law in District Courts and the High Court at Delhi. His early practice provided him with a broad understanding of the legal landscape and honed his skills as an advocate.
In 1997, Justice Dhar was appointed as Civil Judge Jr.Division/Munsiff, marking the beginning of his judicial career. He was promoted to District and Sessions Judge in 2007, demonstrating his competence and dedication to the judiciary.
Throughout his career, Justice Dhar has served in various key positions, including Chief Judicial Magistrate Jammu, Principal District and Sessions Judge of Rajouri, Leh, and Kathua Districts. He also served as Special Judge Anticorruption Jammu, Presiding Officer MACT Jammu, Special Judge Anticorruption CBI Cases, Jammu, Registrar Vigilance, and Registrar General of the High Court of Jammu and Kashmir. His service in these diverse roles highlights his versatility and expertise in different areas of law.
Justice Dhar was appointed as a Judge of the Common High Court for the Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir and Union Territory of Ladakh on April 3rd, 2020, and took the oath of office on April 7th, 2020. His elevation to the bench is a recognition of his extensive experience, legal knowledge, and commitment to the principles of justice.
