Justice Gunnu Anupama Chakravarthy is a distinguished member of the Patna High Court, known for her extensive experience in both civil and criminal law.
Born on 21-3-1970 in Palakonda Village of Srikakulam District, to Dr. N. Krishnachandra Rao and Smt. Mahalakshmi, she pursued her 5-year law course from N.B.M Law College, Visakhapatnam. She is married to Sri G. Lakshmana Rao and has a son, Abhishek Ruthwick, who is a practicing advocate.
After enrolling in 1994, she began practicing in the High Court of Andhra Pradesh, working in the office of Senior Advocate Sri T. Niranjan Reddy. Her practice covered Civil, Criminal, and Writ jurisdictions in the High Court, as well as Civil and Criminal courts, Cooperative Tribunals, and other tribunals. From 2006 to 2008, she served as Assistant Government Pleader. She also holds a postgraduate degree in law (L.L.M).
Selected as a District Judge through direct recruitment, she joined service as Additional District Judge on 02-11-2008. She served in various locations within the combined state of Andhra Pradesh. From January 2019 to September 2020, she was the Principal District Judge in Kareem Nagar. Until August 2021, she worked as Member Secretary of the Telangana State Legal Services Authority at Hyderabad.
After a brief period as Registrar General of the Telangana High Court, she served as Chairperson of the Cooperative Tribunal, Hyderabad, and as Chairperson of the Telangana State VAT Tribunal, Hyderabad. She has also delivered guest lectures at the Judicial Academy, Secunderabad, and NALSAR University of Law, Hyderabad.
She was elevated and sworn in as a Judge of the High Court for the State of Telangana on 24-3-2022. Subsequently, she was transferred as a Judge of the Patna High Court, assuming charge on 01-11-2023.
