A respected figure in the Indian judiciary, Justice G.S. Singhvi's career is marked by his extensive knowledge of constitutional law and his commitment to justice, culminating in his service on the Supreme Court of India.
Born in Jodhpur on December 12, 1948, Justice G.S. Singhvi is the son of Mr. M.M. Singhvi. He graduated from Jodhpur University in 1968 and earned his LL.B. from Rajasthan University in 1971, receiving a Gold Medal for his academic achievements.
Justice Singhvi began his legal career on July 28, 1971, under the guidance of Shri Marudhar Mridul. He practiced at the Rajasthan High Court in Jodhpur until June 1977, when he moved to Jaipur following the establishment of a High Court Bench there. His practice primarily focused on constitutional law, and he also handled criminal cases as amicus curiae. He represented the State Government in special cases and served as counsel for nearly all universities in Rajasthan, as well as various public corporations, educational institutions, and local authorities before the High Court.
Justice Singhvi was elevated to the Bench of the Rajasthan High Court on July 20, 1990. He was later transferred to the Punjab and Haryana High Court on April 28, 1994, and then to the Gujarat High Court on February 28, 2005. He was sworn in as the Chief Justice of the High Court of Andhra Pradesh on November 27, 2005. Justice Singhvi was elevated to the Supreme Court of India on November 12, 2007, and retired on December 12, 2013.
