A distinguished figure in the Delhi High Court, Justice Arjan Kumar Sikri's career is marked by academic excellence and a deep understanding of law. His contributions to the judiciary are widely recognized.
Born on March 7th, 1954, Justice Sikri demonstrated exceptional academic prowess from an early age. He secured a third position in the merit list in the Higher Secondary examination conducted by CBSE, Delhi. He pursued his B.Com (Hons.) from Shriram College, Delhi University, completing it in 1974. Later, he obtained his LL.B from the Law Faculty at Delhi University in 1977, earning a Gold Medal for his first-place achievement. He was also awarded a special prize for his outstanding performance in Constitutional Law I & II.
Justice Sikri holds the distinction of securing the first position in all six semesters of his LL.B course, receiving every possible prize and medal offered by Delhi University for the LL.B program. He furthered his education with an LL.M from Delhi University, again securing the top position in the three-year course. His academic achievements extended beyond the classroom, as he won medals and prizes in various extracurricular activities. He served as the president of Campus Law Centre, Delhi University, in 1976-77 and was a member of the Academic Council and various committees of Delhi University during the same period.
Enrolling as an Advocate with the Bar Council of Delhi in July 1977, Justice Sikri began his practice in Delhi, handling a diverse range of cases with specialization in Constitutional Law, Labour-Service Matters, and Arbitration. He served as counsel for numerous Public Sector Undertakings, Educational Institutions, Banks & Financial Institutions, and various Private Sector Corporations. Additionally, he was a part-time lecturer at Campus Law Centre, Delhi University, from 1984 to 1989. He held the position of Vice-President of the Delhi High Court Bar Association during 1994-95 and was a member of the Governing Body of various colleges. Designated as a Senior Advocate by the Delhi High Court on September 30th, 1997, his expertise was widely acknowledged.
Justice Sikri was appointed as a Judge of the High Court of Delhi on July 7th, 1999. During his tenure, he presided over various jurisdictions and delivered numerous landmark judgments. He actively participated in national and international seminars and workshops, presenting several papers. His insights have been published in various magazines. In 2007, he was recognized as one of the 50 most influential individuals in Intellectual Property globally by the Managing Intellectual Property Association (MIPA).
