Early Life and Education

Born on October 30, 1962, in Bengaluru, Justice Nagarathna pursued her Bachelor of Arts (Honours) degree in History from Jesus and Mary College, Delhi University, in 1984. She then obtained her LL.B. Degree in July 1987 from Campus Law Centre, Delhi University, laying the foundation for her illustrious legal career.

Legal Career

Justice Nagarathna began her practice in law in 1987 with KESVY & Co., Advocates, before starting her independent practice in July 1994. Her expertise spans a wide range of areas, including administrative law, constitutional law, commercial law, and family law. She has represented the Karnataka State Legal Services Authority and the High Court Legal Services Committee and has served as Amicus Curiae in several cases.

Judicial Career

Appointed as an Additional Judge of the Karnataka High Court on February 18, 2008, she became a Permanent Judge on February 17, 2010. During her tenure, she held significant positions such as President of the Karnataka Judicial Academy and President of the Bangalore Mediation Centre, Bengaluru. Justice Nagarathna also contributed to the book “Courts of India” and chaired the committee responsible for the Kannada translation of the book.

Elevated as a Judge of the Supreme Court of India on August 31, 2021, Justice Nagarathna is set to retire on October 29, 2027, leaving behind a legacy of judicial excellence and commitment to the principles of justice.
