Justice Subramonium Prasad, a distinguished member of the Delhi High Court, embarked on his legal career after graduating in B.Com. (Hons.) from Delhi University. He furthered his legal education by obtaining an LLB degree from Campus Law Centre, Delhi University, in 1990. Demonstrating his commitment to excellence, Justice Prasad cleared the Advocate-On–Record exam in 1996, which enabled him to start his independent practice.
His early career saw him appointed as the Standing Counsel for the State of Tamil Nadu in the Supreme Court of India in 2003, a position he held until 2006, marking a significant phase in his legal service. He also served as the standing counsel for the custodian appointed under the Special Court (Trial of Offences Relating to Transactions in Securities) Act, 1992, where he handled cases pertaining to the 1992 stock exchange scam, showcasing his expertise in complex financial matters.
In October 2012, Justice Prasad was appointed as the Additional Advocate General for the State of Tamil Nadu in the Supreme Court of India, further cementing his reputation as a trusted legal advisor. His designation as a Senior Advocate by the Supreme Court of India in April 2015 was a testament to his profound legal knowledge and advocacy skills.
Throughout his career, spanning over 28 years, Justice Prasad has been involved in several high-profile matters, contributing to numerous reported judgments of the Supreme Court. His expertise covers a wide array of legal subjects, including Constitutional Law, Tax, Corporate and Commercial Law, Criminal Law, Election Law, Service Law, and Inter State River Water Disputes.
Justice Prasad's judicial journey includes his appointment as an Additional Judge of the Madras High Court on June 4, 2018. He was later transferred to the Delhi High Court as an Additional Judge on March 13, 2020, and subsequently confirmed as a Permanent Judge on March 17, 2020.
