Early Life and Education
Born on June 17, 1961, in Meerut, Justice Mithal hails from a family of lawyers and received his early education at St. Mary’s Academy, Meerut. He graduated in B.Com (Honours) in 1982 from the University of Allahabad and later obtained his law degree from Chaudhary Charan Singh University, Meerut.
Legal Career
Enrolled in 1985 with the Bar Council of U.P, he practiced under Shri Sudhir Chandra Verma. He mainly practiced on the civil side and dealt with large number of cases of land acquisition, rent control, education, motor accident, labour and other miscellaneous matters including service and constitutional.

Judicial Career
Justice Mithal was elevated as an Additional Judge of Allahabad High Court on July 7, 2006. He later served as Chief Justice of Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh High Court, and Rajasthan High Court. Elevated to the Supreme Court on February 6, 2023, Justice Mithal is known for his contributions to legal education and is due to retire on June 16, 2026.
