A distinguished jurist with a comprehensive legal background, Justice Sanjiv Khanna's career is marked by expertise in diverse areas of law and a commitment to justice, culminating in his elevation to the Supreme Court of India.
Born on May 14, 1960, Justice Khanna completed his schooling in Delhi and graduated from Delhi University in 1980. He obtained his law degree from Delhi University and was enrolled as an advocate in 1983. His legal practice encompassed taxation, arbitration, commercial law, environmental law, and writ jurisdiction in the Delhi High Court.
As an advocate, he handled cases related to medical negligence, company law, and consumer protection. He also served as an Additional Public Prosecutor for the Government of Delhi and as Senior Standing Counsel for the Income Tax Department for seven years. In 2004, he was appointed as a Standing Counsel for the National Capital Territory of Delhi.
Justice Khanna was elevated as an Additional Judge of the Delhi High Court on June 24, 2005, and became a permanent judge on February 20, 2006. His distinguished service led to his elevation as a Judge of the Supreme Court of India on January 18, 2019.
