Hon'ble Shri Justice Dipak Misra, a distinguished figure in the Indian judiciary, was born on 3rd October, 1953. He was enrolled as an Advocate on 14th February, 1977, marking the beginning of his extensive legal career. He practiced in Constitutional, Civil, Criminal, Revenue, Service, and Sales Tax matters in the Orissa High Court and the Service Tribunal, showcasing his versatility and expertise across various legal domains.
His Lordship's career advanced when he was appointed as an Additional Judge of the High Court of Orissa on 17th January, 1996. Subsequently, he was transferred to the High Court of Madhya Pradesh on 3rd March, 1997, and later became a permanent Judge on 19th December, 1997.
Justice Misra's leadership qualities were recognized when he assumed the charge of the office of Chief Justice, Patna High Court on 23rd December, 2009. His career continued its upward trajectory as he then served as Chief Justice of Delhi High Court on 24th May, 2010.
His Lordship's distinguished service led to his elevation as a Judge of the Supreme Court of India on 10th October, 2011. Justice Misra's journey culminated with his appointment as the Chief Justice of India on 28th August, 2017. He demitted the office of Chief Justice of India on 2nd October, 2018, leaving behind a legacy of profound legal insight and judicial leadership.
